WebJun 27, 2024 · Abstract. Compared to canonical weak, nonbonded interactions, the research on the chalcogen bond (CB) is still in its infancy even if it can be easily considered fascinating. In this chapter a brief summary of its application is given. A general introductory section is detailed to place the CB in the context of weak interactions.

Web1 Preface. This recommendation proposes a definition for the term “chalcogen bond” and suggests it be used to designate a subset of the inter- and intramolecular interactions formed by chalcogen atoms (i.e. atoms of Group 16 elements, see p. 51 in []) in a molecular entity (see p. 1142 in []).Oxygen, the chalcogen with highest electronegativity and … A chalcogen bond (ChB) is an attractive interaction in the family of σ-hole interactions, along with halogen bonds. Electrostatic, charge-transfer (CT) and dispersion terms have been identified as contributing to this type of interaction. In terms of CT contribution, this family of attractive interactions has been modeled as an electron donor (the bond acceptor)) interacting with the σ* orbital of a C-X bond (X= hydrogen, halogen, chalcogen, pnictogen, etc.) of the bond donor.
