Hard cranking engine when hot

It's only between about 40-75 deg C as indicated on my scangauge that it seems to have problems. Normal operation is at about 85-90 and in the above 80 deg range it seems to fire right up, ditto for the cold to 40 deg range. The heat from engine after it is shut off will cause the fuel to boil in the bowls. You may be able to add a phenolic carb spacer to help. Michael69.

My start up procedure for anything between 5 minutes and 1 hour after last run is to just crank the key, never touch the pedal until 5 seconds after idle has smoothed out. If your engine will not turn over, then that is another matter. Dave.

I’ve got .3 and .4 ohms of resistance. When cranking I’ve got .2 and .3 volts of resistance. Still cranking very slowly. Hardly enough to turn engine over. New battery, new starter. There are a lot of factors besides timing that can cause hard cranking but, yes, 20º initial can make it worse in some cases. A weak starter, weak battery, poor connections, poor ground, etc. can make it worse. A lot of guys run a bunch more initial without problem by using a high torque starter. leach bowler
